How fast can you push lead bullets before you have to use a gas check. Also does diffrent types of powders also make a diffrence. Say for example accurate arms #9 which is a slow burning powder. Would you need to use a gas check to push magnum loads at say 1100 fps.

With a good lube either in sizing die or dipped you can go all the way up if alloy is hard and barrel smooth. I have shot rifle cast bullets at 2000fps without gas checks, with not much more fouling than jacketed bullets. Now comes the complexity of bullet casting: certain powders,loads,bullet designs and barrel diameter produce leading in certain guns.A gas check tends to eliminate most of these variables and pretty much you can load like jacketed bullets up to any pistol velocity if at least wheel weight hardness and properly lubed, the check has a scrapeing action. Follow loading manual/powder mfg. reccomendations for starting loads and work up to most accurate load noting all pressure signs on brass GO SLOW with smallish batches until you hit YOUR load.
