Taurus .45ACP Tracker-Anybody Know Anything About It??

Does anyone here have any info or experience with this new Taurs in 45ACP??

Looks neat. Except for the porting. I am a bit leary of that on any gun. Wonder if you can get it without the porting??

I have been wanting a revolver in 45ACP. It looks like pretty slim pickens out there.

I don't but I wish someone would reply. I saw one today and it looked like a nifty revover. The porting I could live without but that may be on all of them.

The 4-inch model I saw was compact and well-balanced. The Ribber grips, if that's what Taurus calls them, fit my hand well. Oh, I checked the Taurus website, it said the Tracker line has integral porting. Looked for an online review of the gun but didn't find one. I've had some problems in the past with accuracy in Taurus .38s, but if I could scrape up some extra bucks I'd be willing to give this .45 a try.

Tracker 45acp

Monte and Lefty

The new Guns 2003 Annual has a detailed write up on the Tracker 45. If you can find it it might answer some of your questions. :P

I too, was interested in the new Taurus .45 ACP Tracker. I decided to get some information from Taurus before buying one. I am familiar with the S&W model 25 .45 ACP, and wondered if the Tracker would be similar. I was very disappointed with what they told me. Let me quote from their letter:

“Unfortunately, this firearm will not fire without the Stellar Clip, and a .45 Auto Rim cannot be used, the reason being that there is insufficient gap to allow for the thicker rim”.

“Extra Stellar Clips, Price $39.00 (5 pk.). In addition, $4.75 for Shipping and Handing.”

I could not help but notice their use of the word “Unfortunately”. I’m glad I did not rush out and buy one. I was thinking how versatile the Tracker would be using both .45 ACP and .45 Auto Rim. If the Tracker will not fire without the Stellar Clip, then the .45 ACP must not be headspacing on the case mouth, but on the clip. That would explain the inability to shoot ACP without the clip being in place and also the fact that the Auto Rim rim is too thick.

Wonder how long the .45 ACP Tracker will be in production? Wonder how long the Stellar Clips will be in production? This revolver will be totally useless sometime in the future if the clip is lost, or separated from the gun.

Also, I think that $45.00 is ridiculous for 5 clips.

I guess I will pass on this one. Too bad, could have been a real nice revolver!

Review

There is an article, I think, over at Gunblast.com on the Tracker.

Tracker 45acp

I've had one in the 7" for a couple of months now. You CAN shoot this pistol without the moon clips. The only thing is the extractor will not eject the spent hulls. Just open the cylinder and turn up the barrel and give the butt a bump and they mostly fall out, any that don't your fingernail can flick them out. Shoots nicely to. The ported barrel knocks out most of the recoil even with that light barrel.
