ruger mkii no drill scope mount

I have a Ruger MKII that I've owned for quite a few years, and have been generally satisfied with it. It is about 20 years old, but in excellent condition.
I have always used it just for sport target shooting.
It has the stock sights, but I am curious about trying a scope on it.
I could sure like some advice from "those who know", as to what the best reasonably priced scope would be. Most of my shooting is done at 25 or 50 feet.
I realize that you generally "get what you pay for", but I'm not looking for a top of the line competition scope; just one that is good for "sport type" target shooting.
Even an older used scope would do.
What types are reasonably good, and what types are junk?

What model mkii do you have and is it drilled for scope mount??

Ii is a MKII, and there are no threaded holes on the barrel except for those that accept the stock open sights.
