Does any one know what kind of muzzle velocity I could expect from an H&K USC Carbine, 16" barrel using say... 230 ball ammo?

Using PMC 230gr ball, expect 1200 to 1250. But, with Triton .45 Super 165gr JHP, over 1800 fps! Also with the super, the impact is several inches higher at 50 yards. |

Are you sure about that? I find it a little hard to believe that you are going to gain an extra 50% or 400 fps over the same round out of a pistol.

BillD, Yes, I am sure. My Chrony has never failed me before, and I shot 50 rounds of hardball and 10 of .45 Super on the day of the tests. A .45 round fired from a 4 or 5 inch handgun does not burn anywhere near all the powder. A 16" rifle gives a significantly longer burn time. |

Thanks for the info! This could be an excellent home defense weapon. I never thought about whether it could handle .45 super. That makes it even more appealing. It sounds like you like yours. Any complaints or comments in that regard?

Tito, I love mine. I have equiped it with a BSA 42mm Red Dot and the vertical hand grip. The range I go to has some 5" steel plates on a swing at 60 yards. The gun will ping them every time. Interesting note with the 42mm sight. It sits low enough that you can use either the red dot to aim, or if it is not working, the rifle's regular sights can still be clearly seen thru the dot lens. My next upgrade will be a Sure tactical light on a side picatinney rail. This gun makes an excellent house defense weapon. It is compact enough to move about freely, accurate and reliable. Most of all, it is a ton of fun to shoot. |

We were shooting a friends at the Angeles Range 2 weekends ago. We chrono'd Â*the Aquila .45 ACP IQ 117g alloy. Aquila quotes 1450fps through a pistol. When we fired it in the carbine, we averaged 1844fps over 5 rounds. Jeff |
