Ignorant questions.

This is my first post here. Just found the forum. I'm retired. Have served in the Army, shot .22's from teen years; bought an antique .30/.30, own a .9mm Beretta Model 92 & .38 S&W recessed hammer revolver, snubby. Have concealed carry license.

However I am relatively ignorant of balistics comparisons, and a lot of the terminology. I plead your patience.

I would like to own a SIG 220 .45 cal. or a P226, .40 cal. Leaning toward .45. My reading has suggested that "generally speaking" a .9mm is good enough for defense carry as would be a .45, given the added expense. I'd love to own a .45 auto-load. But would it be any less large to carry concealed than my large Beretta?

I read one place that a Sig 220 .45 could be had for a little under $600.
I can't justify higher spending.

Maybe I should take a cold shower, relative to my love for the SIG and just go back to being faithful to my Beretta, .9mm auto load!

Any input from experience or just common sense, would be appreciated.

An old dog trying to learn new tricks!

Sir-
Welcome to Pistolsmith! The P220 in .45 is actually smaller
than your Beretta, but the recoil is slightly more. Given the
choice between 9mm and .45....I'd rather have a big hole
than a small one if my pet hollowpoint fails to perform as
advertised. JMHO....I don't mind the Beretta, have owned
one in my life, liked it O.K., but I really dig the SIG-especially
the P220(and I have owned all the SIG's)

Re: Ignorant questions

Thanks M.Hall for your reply and input. Your comment about the size did cause me to remember I had read that. Makes me want one all the more.

JessD , I was lucky enough to earn the US Army Distinguished Pistol Shot Badge, with the M-9 (Ber. 92 series). I love the Beretta but I would side with the Sig 220 , for carry and stopping power. Slightly smaller, perhaps lighter? and of course...45ACP. The 9mm would be cheaper to shoot if that is a consideration. Remember that accuracy and shot placement are important...no matter which gun you carry.
