hi, I have been looking around for some good ammo for my Sig 228/226 and it is hard to find any at a good price. I've tried gun broker, auction arms and ammoman and I am having a hard time distiguishing between best current ammo and the old standards. old that I am aware of that work: 115gr Hydra-shoks and +P's, Starfires and 115 silvertips HP. And the new current ammo of Gold-dot, ranger, cor-bon, XST, and the new 9mm (+P+) 124GR. FEDERAL P9HS3G---(I've heard problems with these)--, 9mm (+P+) 115GR. FEDERAL 9BPLE---(These are Hi-shok, but are +P+ and thus are not what I am looking for)--, 9mm +P EXPANDING POINT FMJ BRAND NEW FROM FEDERAL 124GRLEAD CORE WITH SILICONE TIP---(These I have no clue about)-- and the new Tactical ammo. It is hard to find any regular 115 Gr +P or +P+ HP ammo that is a good deal and not old or surlpus, or department old cycle, From what I read that the 124 gr HP are not very good. and Also that Silvertips are getting old. In addition there is a lot of Old and surlpus ammo out there at a fair price how to tell the difference and are they any good(expiration date?). and Are 147 gr as I've been reading very poor stoppers? And Basically can someone tell me the difference(or best of ) these three: 1)-Federal Hydra-Shok HP P9HS3G1 +P+ 124gr 2)-Federal Hi-Shok Jacketed HP 9BPLE +P+ 115gr 3)-Federal Tactical HP LE9T5 +p 135 gr and where can I get these in 50 rnd box at a good/great deal? Any comments or suggestions? |

If you put as much thought and effort into thinking fast and shooting straight, won't really matter what ya put in your pistola! ![]() OK, OK... Plenty have had excellent results w all the ammo ya mention; and plenty have dissed all the ammo ya mention too... Decide what ya want your ammo to do, and get ammo that does it. Do ya want it to stay together/retain weight and penetrate at least 12 inches through common tactical barriers? Do ya want it to expand violently/fragment? Performance through denim more important to ya than through glass? Those are things that can accurately be measured and evaluated. Not sure about war stories and "stopping power"... The 127 +P+ Ranger T is "better" through denim than the 124 +P GD. The 124 +P GD is better through glass than the 127 +P+ Ranger T... The 147 GD and RT look better in bare gel than both of them... Get what ya like or flip a coin like what ya get. Then practice! And practice some more... |
