Sig slide tightening.

I have tightened the slides on many, many 1911's. Can the slide of a Sig 228 be tightened the same way? I bought a used 228 and noticed the slide rattles when you shake it.

Is it inaccurate? Has it been shot a whole bunch?

I haven't shot it yet. I only want to find out if anyone has ever tried to tighten a Sig slide like a 1911 is done.

It's tough to do since you can't lap the slide with an aluminum frame like you can on a steel frame and you can't peen the rails down. Most Sigs are pretty accurate even if they rattle a little.

Shot the 228 today. Shoots about 4 inches high and three inches left. Group at 25 feet was 3-4 inches. Definately not up to my other Sigs (228, 226 and 229). I'll adjust the sights to bring in on target then put some rounds through it. Tried a 15 round Mec-Gar mag in it. A few times it wou dlock the slide back before the last round fed. I'll try the mag in my other 228 and my 9MM 229. I had high hopes for the 15 rounder.

Well, the slide tightened last night. I put the slide in my sight adjusting tool and apparently it squeezed the slide a little. Rattle is gone and the slide is tight. I'm going to shoot it again today at lunch to see if the sight adjustment is ok. How about an unintentional fix. Of course it may have altered the slide in a bad way. Time will tell.

Yes, it doesn't take too much effort to squeeze the Sig sheet metal slides. You have to be careful if you clamp them in a vise.

Went back to the local shop where I got the gun and they toom it in opn trade on a like new 228. Actually got more on trade than I paid for it a few days ago. A reputable gun dealer will take care of us.
