| Ejection Problems..Help Please
Hello everyone, I recently bought a LE turn in P226. It is in very good shape and a good shooter. The problem is that it keeps ejecting shells into my head. I put about 150 rounds through it the other day and I bet about 110 hit me in the head. Made for less of a good shooting day. My questions is, is there someway to fix this? Different load? New extractor? On another Board, some had suggested a new recoil spring. Has anyone else had this problem. I was hopeing someone has had a simular experience and knows the answer. Thanks in advance! The first thing I'd do is replace the springs. If the extractor is pulling out the shells, it's fine. Replace the return spring with one from SiG or Wolf and see if that doesn't fix things. It's something that you should do every 5K rounds anyway.

What Jim said. Also, take a close look at the extractor hook. Make sure it isn't chipped or broken and there isn't crud under the hook. If these things don't work and it's a "Factory Recertified" Sig you can probably send it back to Sig on their dime for repair.

Dave, Thanks for the response. I am a little confused (if you knew me, that would not really surprise you). In Jim's reply, he referenced the "return spring." I was not exactly sure what that was / is. In trying to get some clarification, I asked, "I assume the return spring and the recoil spring are the same?" I look in my manual and I cannot find a return spring in the part diagram. I am asking if you and Jim are referring to the spring that is around recoil guide that is lodged underneath the barrel. In my manual, that spring is referred to as the recoil spring. Thanks for you help patience. |

After re-reading Jim's post I think he was referring to the recoil spring. The only function of the trigger bar return spring is to reset the trigger. If it's a used pistol with an unknown past I'd go ahead and replace the recoil spring no matter what. They cost less than $10.

As much as I like Wolff springs, spend the extra and buy the SIG wound recoil springs.

Dave may correct me if I'm wrong but 220s have a straight/unbeveled ejector tip. Since this is an LE turn in you might want to have a gunsmith check the ejector to make sure it is not been damaged or chipped.
