S&W 4006

Just aquired a 4006 with Novak night sites from an estate sale for $300. This guns shoots pretty good for a DA/SA. It also came with three high cap 11 round magazines. The gun is about 96% and all stainless steel. I have not had a S&W auto for about 10 years. I was looking for a truck gun and when I came across this I could not pass it up. Anyone out there own a 4006? Whats your opinion.

while I dont have a 4006. 300 bones for that with 3 pre ban mags is a super deal. load it with some quality ammo and you have an excellant "truck gun". cant go wrong with gold dot, golden saber, sxt, etc.

Don't I know it. Right now it is stoked with 155 grain Federal Hydra Shoks and is in it's place of honor the center console along with a full reload.

That's the duty pistol for the California Highway Patrol. They have a few thousand of them and I've never heard of any significant problems.

I have 2 of them. One is my issued duty weapon and the other is my formerly issued duty weapon. I hated the 4006 at first, but now I have grown to love it. It wouldn't be my first choice is given and option, but I don't want anything different; so, I'm satisfied with it. The only thing that I don't like about it is the weight.

The only thing I don't like about the 4006 is the factory grips. With the straight backstrap it feels like a 2x2. I replaced the straight grip with the factory arched grip (standard on the 5906) now my hand has some landmarks to index on.

Fist of all, I'm new to this board. So, Hello All.

I bought a 4006 about 2 months ago, and like Combat, I didn't like it at first. It felt OK, but coming from a wheel gun background, it just wasn't what I was used to. After shooting a few hundred rounds through it, I am more & more convinced about it. Unlike Combat, I like the extra weight. Are there any good after market action parts to improved trigger pull (rebound springs, slide springs, guide rods, etc..). I am platooning my 4006 with my G17 in IDPA, and would like to tune up the trigger. Any suggestions??

Wolf makes a spring kit that will reduce the trigger pull. Be careful to insure consistant ignition with all ammo. Visit www.gunsprings .com for more info.

The best guide rod set up I have seen is from Sprinco. They have a captive seccondary spring set-up that reduces felt recoil. I have them in my 1006 and 4506 and they work very well.

N frame, thanks for the suggestion. I have taken a look at it, and it looks good. Did you use the factory weight spring with this new rod?

Everybody has their own opinion of the 4006. Personally, it's the best sidearm I've ever owned. I've done a few mods to mine to basically personalize it. As for shooting, I'd put it up against any 1911 around. I love mine and wouldn't sell it for $5K.
