1076 trigger click

Anyone know where the info is to silence a clicking trigger on a s&w 1076? I've seen mention that it's here but my searches have not turned up anything?

Howdy swg. Bein' that I'm not familiar with the S&W fire control group and can't envision the disconnect arrangement...but also know that there has to be a hammer hook to sear interface...I'll take a shot in the dark.

Cock the hammer and dribble a little light oil onto the forward area that enters the frame. Cock and dry fire the gun a few times to disperse the oil. Then, boost the hammer lightly with thumb pressure. If there's a rough spot on the hammer hooks or the sear, this will probably smooth it out. If there's no change...I'd have to see the gun before I could make a closer call on what it could be.

Boost the hammer...With the hammer at full cock, push it forward in the direction that it falls when released by the trigger. That places the hooks and sear under heavier frictional contact than when functioning normally. While the hammer is being boosted...pull the trigger until it falls. Repeat 8-10 times, and recheck it. If the problem was coming from a burr or sharp edge, it should be smoother. Don't boost it too hard. Just enough so that it will require about twice the force to pull the trigger as it does normally. Any harder, and you run the risk of damaging something.

Actually the click is coming from the trigger lever catching on the back of the sear. You will have to take the gun apart and remove the hump where it's catching on the back of the sear.If you need detailed help,Let me know and I'll walk you thru it.

Outstanding! If KG has been into one, let him walk you through it. I never have, so I don't know the inner workings.

Now, this is what the forums are supposed to be about.

Hey KGCustom, a walk through of this process would be greatly appreciated. I was preparing myself for the potential mistakes of trial and error so having help and the know how instructions sounds great. It compares to finding new firearms under the tree on Christmas morning Thanks!

JohnnyT, thanks for your help/ suggestion. I should've said that in the previous post but was both in a hurry and distracted.

Sigarmed 1 and 10mm have some posts here concerning the issue but my searches didn't find the solution. With KGCustom's offer to help I'm hoping to be click free soon.

My personal experience is that deer and pigs don't like to be disturbed with metallic noises before they are shot

swg23, Here we go Mate.

Strip the gun right down and have the drawbar and sear in front of you.
If you look at the drawbar at the back(Where it engages the sear)you will see that it has 2 nothches( Hard to see in the pic but you will see it once it's in your hand.
The lower one is the one that it is catching on.
You can do 2 things.
1) Take that lower notch off.

2) Take 10 thou max of the sear ( See Picture )on the band sander.Only on the underside where the arrow is pointing.
The sear is the easiest but if you take to much off it will catch on the safety notch on the hammer and you will need a new sear.

If all goes well, No more click.

Ken

Thought I'd post the current status of "trigger click 101" just in case someone else was watching and attempting the same thing.

I removed too much material from the draw bar and now have to tig it back up and start all over. In its current state the hammer will not fall to strike the firing pin- it stops in the position as if the decocker was used. Thankfully KGCustom has already sent me good info needed to get it back into shape.

I'll post more results and info as it becomes available. The flooding and storms in middle TN caused issues with my power lines so no tig welding till I get that fixed. Could be a bit but I'll post when I can.
