Thumbs up I found something to work!

I kept looking for something to work without spending a lot of time having to fabricate it. It works so well my wife twisted the nut off. It is a watch case back removal tool. Can be found on e-bay. Only problem is I don't know how to post pics here. I didn't forget so give me some time and I will work on this simple dilemma.

The watch back remover is far more simple and less expensive than the one you found. I'll look for the one on the bay and post some info/numbers. I have been to "Gunparts" but I can't find anything or tool to do the job. I have removed the nut on both my 2206s and I can't believe how cheap the tool is how easy to use. I'll come back tomorrow with info.

Not the one I used but this will work with a little file work. I had the other for a long time and it seems they don't make them anymore. This is fairly cheap and there are more even cheaper if you search. Well I guess I will now have to learn to post pics here now. If I was 5 yrs old it would be a snap but at 68 it's like learning to speak Latin or something.

That is similar to a flat tip screwdriver, except it's designed as a pry tool for some watchbacks. How does it work for a barrel nut?

Just to be sure is your pistol a 2206? If so the barrel nut is designed with two slots on the inside of the nut at 180 degrees apart but not all the way through to the outside of it. All you have to do is engage both at the same time and twist it off or twist it on. The case back opener with some grinding/filing will do that. The handle at the end makes for a convenient place to grip and twist. If you have a Craftsman 1/2" flat blade screwdriver bit for a 1/2" socket wrench you could make it fit as well but it's a bit awkward. I also acquired a military folding screwdriver that I'm going to attempt to modify as well. I could not find a flat blade screwdriver on line. I am not able to roam around looking for one but I would think they are around. I think I will disengage my Seabee brain on this one since there are a number of solutions lol. Let me know what you find and how it works.

So you modded it into a two point spanner. I expected there would be a couple of slots 180 apart in the nut.

Actually all I had to do is make a blade (flat) the thickness of the slot and the width of the slot from inside to inside. Just a screw driver if you will. Have been talking to a machinist I met through my purchases of muzzle brakes and things he makes and sells on the bay. I have talked to him about a design for a spanner to remove and replace the barrel nut. I'm surprised no one has done one yet. Think of an "L" shaped piece of stainless with a half inch wide by six inch long tool made to fit the slot then just twist off or twist on/tighten. You just have to make sure it's thick enough not to deform when applying the torque to do the job. Take care for now.

In looking at the 422 and 622 barrel nuts/collars they have slots that pass all the way through the sides where as the 2206 nuts/collars don't. It is worth the expense to purchase them both to see if they fit the 2206 making it easier to remove and replace.
