Most of the 20 or so centerfire handguns I own are of the 1911 or Glock variety. Several years ago, however, I picked a Performance Center "shorty 9mm" which, looks alot like a 6906, but substantially enhanced. I just started shooting it recently after acquiring a Dillon 650xl with interchangeable toolhead, and a bucket of 9mm brass from a police officer friend. I load the same Zero or MG 115s as in my race gun (SV Masterpiece) I've found it makes a great IDPA gun, particularly where I have to abandon my brass!

I am amazed that I have been neglectling this gun for so long! The more time I spend with it, the more it impresses me. The gun fits together like a Swiss watch, functions flawlessly, and is extermely accurate. Heavy match barrel, cool bushing system, excellent trigger, controllable yet light weight, 12 round mags for $30. Smith & Wesson has gotten a bad rap lately, but now that the Company is free from its communist rulership I'm definitely going to put Performance Center pieces back on my wish list! Does anyone out there own a shorty 40? How about a Recon or the new single action .45s? Do they kick tail end like my little jewel?

Tito,

you have yourself a fine pistol. I do not own a shorty forty but have desired that model when it first came out.

Regarding your your "jewel," I feel the same way about my production 5906 S&W 9mm. Never had a jam or malfunction ever with close to 1500 rounds put through. Slide runs on frame like glass!

Looks like your shorty nine needs a mate (Shorty forty). You should get one.

Aloha!

I have had a Shory 40 Mk. 3 as an off duty gun for the past 4 or 5 years. I added Trijicon night sights. No complaints here.

Greetings,
I purchased one of the first Shorty .40's released for sale and "it" has been my primary carry weapon for the last several years. After about 40,000+ rounds downrange the mag release button started to become difficult to push. I returned the gun to the Performance Center (PC) with my complaint and shortly thereafter received a call asking "What had I done to the gun?" I replied nothing, and that it was in great shape (as they could see) with not a scratch on it. The person then inquired how many rounds I had shot with it, so I told him. I think he must have fallen off his chair because the phone went dead for a few seconds, but he then returned with the reply that "These guns weren't meant to be shot that many times!" Well, no one ever told me that, and the gun shot as accurately at 40,000+ rounds as it did when I first bought it (I ransom rest tested it every 5,000 rounds or so, and before I returned it to the PC). Anyway, the man at the PC asked if he could keep the gun, so I said "Yes, but when will the repairs be done?" He said, "No, no, we want the keep the gun permanently, as a test specimen because of the number of rounds fired through it." Before I could say anything he added that they would send me a NEW PC Shorty .40 to replace my old one. How could I disagree? I told him though that I wanted to have night sights put on the new gun and to have 5 more factory PC magazines for the gun too, for which I gave him my credit card to charge. Wasn't I surprised when a few days later I received a new PC Shorty .40, with night sights, and 5 new PC magazines, and 3 sets of recoil springs, and NO CHARGE to my credit card.
Now that IS customer service.

Gonzo

I was going to buy a 3913 but due to S$W's treasonous deal with the Klinton administration, I chose to buy a NIB stainless Kahr K9, which IMHO is a far better gun.

I just got an NIB 3953 that has been in a safe since 94. Its a preagreement gun and
I love it. I shoot a K40, which is smaller and holds less rounds. It weighs the same as my 3953 and the DAO triggers are very similar, advantage= 3953 as it has shorter trigger pull. Shoot well
