Heavy Loads For N Frame???

I have a year old 625 that I purchased for IDPA/IPSC. When deer or small game hunting... or just generally messing around in the woods I have previously carried my S & W 66 loaded with factory .357 ammo. I'm thinking that the new N-frame might be a better gun for the job.

The area is well out of 911 range and tends to be "infested" with badgers, black bears, misc. varmits....and once in a while.... poachers.

The N-Frame has only been fired with mild FMJ re-loads.

For this new "role" as a back woods defense pistol...does anyone have suggestions on factory loads that n-frames seem to "like"???????

I was thinking about something in the 230 grain JHP P+ range??????

The .45 Super 'Tactical' loads from Texas Ammunition Co. are plenty stout for quite a few of
the critters you'll encounter, 2 or 4 legged, and won't hurt your gun as the pressures are still
within SAAMI specs.

I never heard of that resource... Thanks.... I'll look into it.

For my 1911 .45 ACP carry loads I have stuck with Corbon or Hydra-Shok.

I am to some degree concerned that because I have the 625 set up with light springs etc for competition... that the tougher primers on factory loads may not be 100% reliable.

Maybe I should cook up a reload for this job... ??????????

For defensive purposes, I would stick with what you have now...but against say, black bear,
the hotter loadings would be better, IMHO.

Your best bet for heavy loads for that 625 is to load up some .45 AR brass with some good 250 grain SWC or similar bullets for the .45 Colt. I have a 625 mountain guns that loves the 240 to 255 grain SWC bullets and they pack a punch even if they are not moving very fast. You should be able to load those to 800 fps at least.
