| Who knows about the P22?
I really like the P22, so I'm trying to get as much info as I can. Soooo.... Accuracy? Reliability? How would I know a newer made one for an older one? thanks |

Look for one that has a 'L' at the begining of the serial number. Magazine should have an 'A'. These are the newer one that don't have feeding problems. It is picky about the ammo. Accuracy is so, so. hope this will help.

I think it is a good pistol at a good price, but there is one issue that I have with it. I don't like how the hammer can be drawn back and dropped with the safety on. Sure there is a piece of plastic stopping the hammer from hitting the firing pin, but I just prefer the hammer in one place when the safety is on. -RHM |

To best answer your question, yes, that is the way they designed it. As I mentioned, I am not a huge fan of that type of "safety;" maybe if a piece of metal rather than plastic was stopping the hammer from transfering energy to the firing pin I might feel a little more comfortable with it. Look at the bright side...most of the other popular .22 autos are single action, so at least the hammer is already down on the P22, right? I am comfortable carrying 1911s cocked and locked, but I always carried my Ruger MkIIs with the chamber empty; I just never felt I would need to take a shot so fast with it that I could not rack the slide. I have yet to hear of anyone's negligent discharge because of the P22's safety, so I would assume it works even if it isn't of the type I am very comfortable with. Just exercise good judgement and safety measures as you do with any other firearm and you should be fine. Personally, I'll choose something other than the Walther P22 for carrying about. Best of luck and happy plinking. -RHM |

You're welcome, hope you enjoy the forum, there are a lot of really knowledgeable people around here. I think Walther really missed the boat when they didn't make their .22 carbine and P22 pistol magazines compatible. Let us know how it shoots. -RHM |
