| Can someone answer a S&W third gen large frame grip ques
I have a 4566, .45. I've tried Hogue which make the trigger too hard to reach. Factory plastic grips lack palm swells which allows them shift in my hand. Here's the question: I've heard that factory grips for a model 1076 10mm will fit my 4566, these supposedly have palmswells allowing for a better fit. The problem I've found is that my 4566 has the slide mounted safety as do most Smiths, the 1076 has a frame mounted de-cocker-ala SIG. Is there any way I can use a set of 1076's on my 4566? Please forgive me if this is in the wrong forum, I thought some of the Smith 10mm owners here might know the answer.

| 1066/1006 grips
The 4500 and 1000 series grips should fit each other. I had a 1066 at one point with the arched factory plastic grips that I removed and mounted on a 4506. I also owned Hogue grips that made the swap between my Smith's when I had them. I don't recall either having any real "palm swell" to them. I preferred the factory S&W with the arched backstrap to the flat backstrap. I also found the Hogue grips a little too sticky for drawing. They would grab clothing pretty tightly. My recommendation: Find a pair of factory plastic grips with the arched backstrap. |

1066 has the slide mounted safety, while the 1076 was the "FBI" model with a frame mounted decocker.

I think the gun is defective and should be sent to me for further review. JK I have not noticed a great deal of difference between the grips for the 10 series and the 45 series 3rd gen guns. You may find arched or flat backstrap versions but the Hogues work very well for me, But then again I have paws rather than hands.

Litlte late I know. All the 10mm's / 45's use essnetially the same grips, the frame decocker models only difference is the notch for the frame decocker. I would stick with the factory grips that come in one piece arched or non arched backstraps. If you want palm swells just buy the rubber grip strap that Hogue makes, it's cheap and goes on right over the factory grip. |

Hello, I have a 1076 FBI documented. I found a set of palm swell grips which were pretty much standard issue on the gun. These have a palm swell and curved backstrap. I found that they were much more comfortable than the straight backstrap grips with no palm swell. Hope this helps John
