| 38 super Govt Colt Enhanced will not eject
The ejector on my 38 super is going under the spent case and not ejecting the round .This seen more often with the new Cobra Mag but not exclusively. The result is crushed cases @ 10 and 2 oclock, I think from hitting the top of the barrel hood and type 3 malfunctions. It seem the next round in the mag is pushing the spent case up into the breach far enough to let the ejector pass under it. Is this more common with 9mm and 38 supers ? I have not seen this with the .45acp before. Any help or advice on a course of action to take will be welcome. Thanks. ROFI |

Have you checked that the ejector is not broken? Did the gun come as a 38 super or was it changed from .45? How do the lips on the mag look? Does the mag release the round at approx the 1/2 way point?

Yes the Ejector is a wilson extended ejector for 38 super and is not broken. The Colt is a factory 38 super gun. The mag feeds fine and can even cycle empty brass. The cobra mags are made to sit a little higher in the gun to improve feeding and may be the problem? Or the breach is letting the cases ride up to high and not let the ejector hit them? Thanks ROFI |

I would first try to eliminate the mags as a problem. Buy or borrow different mags and see if that works. If the breech is allowing the rounds to go over the ejector, then I would check the tension of the extractor (but normally such does not happen) |

If fails only with the Cobra mag, then that is the problem.

Thanks, I will try and adjust the tension of the extractor. I felt this may have some impact on the problem too. I may just replace as I do not care for the profile of this stock unit and will find one better suited for 9mm and super comp brass and keep this one for the stock super. ROFI |

It seems the extactor was a little to loose for the 38 supers and way to loose for the 9mm and 3 8super comps. This with the new Cobra mag (with a much stiffer spring ) pushed the rounds up high in the breach and the ejecter misssed the cases a few times. I will try the setup with the tuned extracter and post some results after a trip to the range...until then...Thanks ROFI

Well, I replaced the extracter with an Aftec and installed a stonger 18lb recoil spring and all my problems seemed to go away. Empty casses still fly away but no more crushed casses . but that can be expected with Hot supers...Thanks all for the advise and sounding board... Best ROFI |
