New Respect for my 38 Super
After collecting an ammo can full of 38 super brass at USPSA matches, I decided to take the plunge and buy a pistol for the cartridge since I was well prepared to reload. The first couople outtings didn't build my confidence in this particular pistol.
Today that changed. I went out without its stablemate 45acp and had a lot more success. The 38 super is definitely snappy on recoil compared to the 45acp. But...taken by itself, very easy to "adapt" to. Since a hunter with a blackpowder rifle was hogging the 50 yard bay, I was forced into the "empty" bay. My practice was degraded to making paper plates jump around the back berm. Not a test of shot groups, but very fun! It was actually rather more realistic for USPSA competition since my sight alignment was continuously changing.
In the end, I have much more faith in my Colt 38 super, and greater respect for the 38 super cartridge.

38 Super ballistics are nothing to dismissed either. Basically, it provided 9mm +P+ velocities without going past SAMMI pressure specs.
