Does anyone make an aftermarket aluminum slide for the Commander. I'd sure like to trim a little weight off mine. I handled an aluminum slide Commander in a gun shop today and it was sweet. Anything out there? Zack

No such animal except for 22 long rifle. Kimber has a factory Government model slide made specifically for 22 long rifle. Several aftermarket companies have made 22 long rifle aluminum slides. None can be converted to centerfire and I would not want to try such a stunt. Receivers can be made of aluminum and that does trim about 10 ounces from the weight of the 1911.
Zack,
I am pretty sure you can get an aluminum slide in any size/ caliber from SVI (www.sviguns.com). I have seen pics of one in officers and I guess they work(built by reputable smith). I don't know how well one would hold up, but you should be able to get one if you think you need one.
