S&W 945-1

Hey guys, I may have a chance to buy a used 945-1 for around $1100-1200. What do I need to know about this gun (besides a good inspection and firing it) that would help me to figure out if this is a good price. The gun has around 500 rounds through it. I know a new one is listed at the Smith site for over $2000. I have never owned a .45 before and I would probably use it for bowling pin and steel plate matches (maybe some combat league later on?). I was also thinking about the new Ruger 345. As you can see, I am all over the place on this. I just do not like the 1911 configuration and the 945's grip angle is much more comfortable to me. Thanks for your help in advance!

Man, that is a broad range of choices! You can find out the value by checking a Gun Trader's Guide or Blue Book of Gun Values. Most any shop should have a current copy.
Note that the .45 is not great for steel plates. Unless the match requires the power, you're wasting recoil by not using the 9mm. It is pretty standard for bowling pins though.
