| Stuck Primers
I was reloading some .45 ACP nickel plated cases, and managed to punch through the spent primers during the process. By punching through, I mean the decapping pin went through the old primer, and removed the base. The walls of the old primer are still attached to the walls of the primer pocket. Anyone else have this problem? Any ideas for solutions? Thank you for your time. |

You have a couple of options...my favorite, throw the cases away. You can get a primer pocket reamer, cut the handle off and mount it in drill press and using the slowest speed, gently ream down to the primer pocket seat (being careful not to let the case lean). You may have to start the process with a 60 degree drill bit if the primer wall is at the same level as the shell base...drill out just enough to let the reamer fit into the pocket. You may want to double check to see if the cases are some sort of militaria with crimped primer pockets, if so they will all need to be swaged. |
