Sick thought, is it possible to chamber a M1 carbine in 9x23?

excellent question I'd like to know the answer to... I think you would have to bore out the barrel... also interesting to think about a 9x23 ar-15...

It should be possible. There are some M1 carbines floating around converted to .357 automag. I have heard they work well, so 9x23 should be do-able. I don't have any details....

Before they folded, AMAC made up some M1 Carbines in 9mm Win Mag, I was told. If there would be any problem with the 9x23 in the M1 Carbine, it would stem from the high operating pressure of the 9x23 versus the lower pressures of most of the conversion cartridges. Shoot |

Oddly, Most 357 Automag Loads (357 AMP) aren't going to be as high of pressure I don't think. However, the 357 AMP is an awesome cartridge. I want to chamber an M1 Carbine in one. The 9x23 is just so powerful in a small package. I think it's lost some appeal with the repeal of the ban. I mean 10 rounds of 9x23 is hard to beat. I wish I had bought 10 cases of silvertips and 20 cases of the JSP White Box back when it was "cheap". JW |

Why bother? The original 30 carbine load literally blows the 9X23 out of the water. I once had an Iver Johnson M1 carbine in 9mm Luger. It used Hi-Power mags. It never made it completely through a full magazine without at least one stoppage.

I really like the old M-1 carbine as a plinker and would buy one in 9x23 if it were available. I load 9x23 anyway and would like to have a long arm for it. The AR or Mini-14 would be OK, too, but I would prefer the M-1. Buddy |
