I'd try the grip route first. Have Hauge make a grip to fit her hand (No finger grooves trust me).

A S&W model 34 and shoot he hell out of it is not a bad idea. The Walther PP is a favorite with women.

One pound is unrealistic. Think about one pound gun and with a ten pound trigger pull...

The question you have to ask is how often is she going to practice? If it's 2-3 times a year, get a revolver(maybe S&W 619-can shoot .38 Spcl in it). If it's once a month, she could probably handle a semi-auto(can't go wrong with a Glock). It's becoming familiar with the gun that is the most important especially when there is an intruder and the adrenalin has flooded the body.

I don't believe you specified if this is for house or carry. Being in Illinois and blessed with the best legislators money can buy ( mainly Chicago) , we have no carry rights, so I'm not gonna touch that. But if you meant for a house gun, I can't see how a good 4" K-frame Smith loaded with .38+P JHPs can be beat. Can lay there in a drawer for five years and be instantly ready. No bells or whistles, safeties, springs to take a set, no slides to rack, mags to hunt for. Just my opinion, but I have Sigs, Colt series 70s, even a Glock, but my noise-downstairs-in-the-middle-of-the-night dresser drawer gun is a 4" Model 10 .
