Mauser M3000 Action - Mechanical Problem
I recently bought a Mauser M3000 rifle in 7mm Rem. Mag. I only wanted it for the action, which is left-hand, as the basis for a large bore rifle for dangerous game. At the show, it seemed to work fine and I didn't examine it as closely as I should have. At home, I discovered that the bolt would occasionally (1 out of 20 times or so) override the bolt stop and come out of the action. I tried oiling, etc. - usual steps, then noticed some marring of the rear of the left bolt locking lug. That is the contact point for the bolt stop in the action. It appears the metal on the lug has perhaps been upset enough to allow the overriding condition. Obviously, reliability is everything in such a project. Being left-handed is a real problem in trying to find a reliable action for a custom rifle. Anyone had a similar problem, or know a gunsmith that specializes in these actions. It was only made a few years (1971-74), and I doubt Mauser, who sub-contracted it to another maker, would be of much help. Any ideas/leads appreciated.
