| Value of a modified mdl 1897 rolling block?
Back in the mid-50s a Milwaukee gun shop acquired about 100 rolling blocks in 7x57mm and was selling them for $10 each. They were in terrible condition… no bluing, wood cracked, parts missing etc. Having never seen one, I liked the looks and bought one. On mine the chamber was too badly pitted to fire, the butt plate was missing and the firing pin was broken. I sent it to P.O.Ackley to have it refurbished and converted to .30-40 Krag. It came back with a high gloss stock, new bluing, recoil pad and a Williams peep and front ramp sight. (I have the original sights.) It also turned out to be the most accurate gun I’ve ever fired. All for $160 including shipping! It’s been my only deer rifle and has never let me down. Now I’ve got to dispose of it and am wondering if it has any value as a gun, or do I turn it into a floor lamp? I’d appreciate any comments.
