Lever Action: Straight grip to Pistol grip changeable??

Is it possible to change a straight grip stock, such as a Henry or Marlin,
to a pistol grip stock? If so, I recognize that the "lever" would also
have to be changed from straight to curved.
Thanks!!

Dan

IMPOSSIBLE??/

Not much is impossible if You have enough money, time, and the iron rack holds out.......big question .....is it practical?
Should be a lot of straight stock Marlins in Pawn shops......Spring time in Louisiana Pawn shops fill up with them

You need the stock, lower tang, and the lever to convert a Marlin.

Hi Dan,

I have a Marlin 336 with pistol grip that I want to convert to straight. My parts are all in excellent condition. willing to trade straight across.

Thanks,
David

Re: Lever Action: Straight grip to Pistol grip changeable??

A bit off the original question and clearly dated, but someone else might have a similar inclination. I surely like my straight hand grips in Winchester and Marlin saddle carbines and in the wonderful old Browning SuperLegeres, but one of my current favourite woods hunting rifles is an early WInchester 64 Deer Rifle, commonly called the Deluxe version, with a correct period Lyman aperture sight and a modern version of the old Redfield Sourdough front. Gotta have an original, though, and not the post-64 version released for a short time in 72-73 when you work the lever and feel like you're jerking the guts out of the rifle. Same with the Marlin 39--the older rifle versions were slick handling and graceful rifles, but the more current iterations feel like lumber. If all you've handled are the more recent versions, you might be much misled as to the feel of the pistol grip stock as it should be. There's much to be said for the pistol grip stock in a hunting rifle, especially for accurate follow on shots. Handle one of the 50's or 60's gen Marlin 39's or one of the old Winchester 64 Deer Rifles. You might find you like the pistol grip stock after all. If you're tied to the cowboy look, that's all right, too, but the pistol grip stocks definitely have their place.
