T Series History

I have heard much about the T series being the definitive hi-power. I was not into Brownings in those days so I do not know the marketing and history of the series. Can one of the old timers, or the sage moderators weigh in here and tell us some of the history of the T series, or point to some written history?

Hello. Made in the "classic" form for the Hi Power, the "T-Series" were made from some point in '63 to '69 and possibly 1970, depending upon sources. It's hard to pin down exactly as FN's habit was to phase out parts through use. Most will agree that this is at least roughly the time-period in which they were made.

They came with both fixed and tangent sighted versions and had bright blue finishes on slide and frame as well as the checkered walnut stocks seen on most HPs back then. The main visibile difference between them and the "C" models that came along in '70 is the ring hammer had by the T guns. They had the older, smallish single-side thumb safety. On the fixed sight T, the front sight was staked on rather than dovetailed like the MkIII.

Many believe that the fit and finish of the T-Series represents the highest point in Hi Power quality. The ones I've owned and shot were accurate and reliable and even with the magazine safety, they almost always had very good trigger pulls. Despite the older style humped feedramp, they fed JHPs pretty well, too, unless very short.

Best.

T-Series

Thanks Steve for your kind post. Do you know or can remember how Browning marketed the series? Were they sold as a super deluxe model, and if so, how? Does anyone know of any factory literature, ads, etc. pointing to the product?
