Hi all, new here. just wondered if anyone has built themselves a nice tactical HP. I mean full blown tactical rig. im new to HPs but have had a few 1911 that i carried for work and would like to build this up for work as well, I like this over the 1911 due to capacity. Thanks in advance

Hello. I used a Hi Power that had all I felt was needed for several years in my department's tactical unit: Good sights adjusted to match POI with POA at 15 yards, comfortable grips, and the gun's reliability had been proven. The pistol had a clean trigger after a C&S hammer/sear were fitted to it and a trigger job done. The barrel was the standard factory as accuracy was fine.

Best.

well, i was thinking with some sights, trigger work, an extended threaded barrel, some type of mods to bevel the magwell opening, extractor work, and the addition of an accessory rail it could be just the ticket. I know I'll probably catch hell on the light rail, but it is a need, not a want. so far ive found enough trigger/sear parts, but im still looking on the barrel, rail, and Jet Funnel type magwell setup. if anyone knows of these parts, or can machine them for me, please let me know. Thanks

Jeff

An extended, threaded barrel? For a suppressor, I am assuming? Extractor work? BHP doesn't need it. Sights and trigger...yeah. Light rail...umm...I think that SOMEONE out there offers one, though having no interest in it, it never stuck in my mind. Mag funnel...I guess...there really isn't any good reason other than "just because", though.

I have to agree with Coolhandluke on this one. I don't think the hi-power is really what you want. I would personally point you in the direction of the Glock 17.

actually, I have a 17L and 20 and personally I cant stand the way they feel in the hand. if the stock extractors function fine then thats one less thing to worry about versus my 1911s. yes, i do need the barrel extended and threaded for a suppressor and the mag funnels make quite a difference in the time it takes under tension to change magazines. I would also appreciate input from you all on what types of kydex holsters are out there for HPs and what types are most forgiving on the finish. I noticed it fits pretty well in my 1911s holsters, but i do not have a kydex on hand to test fit, does anyone know if that would fit well also?

i was issued a USPf .45 for a while last year by a previous employer, just didnt feel right in the hand, the HP does. that is the main reason for wanting to mod it to suit my pupose. a gun that fits the operator more naturally, sights up much quicker. the HP has the capacity advantage over the USP, my wife carries a USPf 9 and the highest capacity available is 15.

Hiya Cleaner, ya know, that Glock 20 fits my hand like a glove,
go ahead and ship it to me.....I'll suffer a little while with it,
but I'll probably get over it 8) !

Hey, I'm all for Hi Powers, but that 17L with grip mod if necessary would be a pretty good setup itself. Those are accurate and supposedly get more velocity than normal.

The only kydex I've used for a Hi Power is from Blade Tech; it works pretty well.

In any case, it will be interesting to see your pics.

that was the reason I chose the 17L in the first place over the 17, the longer barrel and the longer sight radius. it really is a nice pistol, just doesnt fit my tastes, most of it is the grip angle like on my old steyr M9. and thatnks for the heads up on a holster, so far its between that blade tech and a cen-dex

cleaner, http://gungarage.com has Federal drop-in threaded barrels for the HP. Barsto will make an extended theaded barrel on a special order basis. I congradulate you on choosing the HP, my MkIII .40SW project is close to being finnished after too many years. Good luck and don't listen to the naysayers!

Threaded barrels here would probably get me a quick visit from someone I'd rather not have visiting me.

So these are about the closest thing to tactical that I'll get, until we move...

Take a look at Ted Yost's Hi-Power package!

Ted Yost makes a custom Hi-Power, the SRT. It is truly a thing of beauty and reasonably priced for a custom gun.

Take a look at it at www.yostbonitz.com
You'll want one! Your WIFE will want one! Your dog will want one! :D
