| Challenger slide lock spring
Hello, Just wondering if any users have had an issue with the Challenger slide lock not working. I have a Challenger 1 from 1969, admittedly not used in a long while and the slide lock which used to work is now rigid. Took off wooden grips to look at the spring (a thin straight piece of metal) and noticed it is too short to hold the lock latch. Has anyone had a similar issue and if so how was it resolved and what were or could be the costs? Thanks for any feedback! |

First check is to be sure nothing on the slide stop is broken. Sometimes some slide stops on auto pistols have a lug on the back the spring engages. Best option is to just cut to the chase and replace the spring. Any gunsmith worth the name can make a new spring, if you're handy with tools you can make one with some appropriate sized hardware store music wire, or you can just order a new one: Browning used the same type spring on the Challenger series and the Buckmark series. First choice is Brownell's who list it under the Buckmark, part 94 http://www.brownells.com/schematics/...rk-sid366.aspx Jack First Gunshop - First in Gun Parts - Rapid City, South Dakota CHALLENGER III. Accessories | Numrich Gun Parts Gun parts for major firearms companies, gunparts They call it the "Stop open latch spring" part number P050497, price $.70. |
