xse quality

I recently decided to add a commander to my group of 1911 colts and after a lot of looking, handling, etc. decided on a stainless xse combat commander. I like the feel and balance and even the downcast grip safety. My dealer got it in and I was pleased to find the fit and finish were impeccable. Hoeever, the trigger was about 6 lbs heavy, and the slide seemed to travel on gravel. Stripped it and found no tool marks or debris internally, fp-10'd the firing system, tetra'd the slide rails, and dry fired and worked the slide hundreds of times. (I dry fire my colts all the time and have never had a problem) The trigger now breaks at about 5 lbs. and the slide moves on glass. Took it to the range and have had no failures of any kind in over 500 rds. of mixed white box and mil. surplus. Groups are gold cup-like from a rest, a little worse(ha!) offhand. This will be my carry gun from now on(no permit needed in vt.) replacing an older blue 70 series. Guys seem to either love or hate the xse, but I sure like mine despite having to do some of colt's work for them.

I bought a new XSE Gov Model and after 5 rds the white dot on the front sight came off
I shipped it back to Colt they replaced the sight , after I got it back I put 6 rds thru it and one of the white dots on the rear sight came off
I was VERY dissapointed in Colt , there Customer Service people said to paint it white it happens all the time , I said not after 11 rds it shouldnt
That is the only problem Ive had with it tho
I replaced the Stock Sights with Novaks
I wont buy another Colt tho not after dealing with the Cust Serv People at Colt I opted for a Loaded Springfield and it has performed flawlessly

I have not yet had problems with dots falling out, but Testor's hobby enamel paint seems to work very well, just make sure the surface is completely free of oils and solvent.

sight dots

The only way to keep dots in place is to slightly caeter drill each spot. Mix the right color with abit of 5 min eepoxie. Let it dry well and I assure you they will stay forever. I had jigs to locate the dots.

This does happen all the time. I've had it happen on all my Para Ordnance's, and Para told me the same thing.

dots

To ad to my other post, Id say that the only way to put permanent dots on a sight is to first drill cavities to be filled with the proper paint mixed with abit of 5 min epoxie. As I said before I have drill jigs for locating them. Its a must to get them even.

Funny thing ...

... I have had a hard time getting to dots to come out of my Colts.
It usually takes a lot of acetone and a dental pick.

I hate to tell you this, but I've had the dots come out of Springfield sights too. You can mix a little white Testors model enamel with clear epoxy and replace the dots as stated earlier. I think you're being a little hard on Colt over such a small problem, and one that's not uniquely a Colt problem. ==Bob

So how much for that used peice of junk that has such major defects as the lil white paint dot comeing out, guess it should go for a couple hundred, so I might just take a chance on it, especially since I got a tiny jar of model car paint for 89cents and have done several sight dots in the last couple dozen yrs. Clean the sight hole with acetone or alchaole and drop a drop of paint in there, OR ship it back to Colt/Springfield/Para ect, and they can put a drop of paint in there for ya??
Or be like me and wish they would stop putting those dang dots in there to begin with!!!
