The hammer needs to be in the cocked position before you can wiggle the safety up and down as you pull it outward.

Thanks for adding that additional bit of info, dfaris. Just because you I already knew that doesn't mean that Hydra-Shoker does...I overlooked mentioning the hammer needing to be cocked before removing the thumb safety because I've done it so many times it's rote.
