Ok, here's a technical question for all you experts out there... When converting a CZ 82/83 from 9x18/.380 to .32 ACP, besides a barrel and magazine change, would we have to acquire a slide made for .32 ACP to avoid "bolt face" issues, or can we use a slide from a 9x18/.380, and just change out the extractor. Factory/custom shops are no help...so I'm cruising the forums out there hoping to get a qualified answer. Have one in .380, love it, but wanted one in .32ACP...used to live in Cally, and those are illegal. I've since moved...They are nigh on impossible to find anymore, so I thought I'd build one...Thx.... "Edit" : Another thought.. is there any difference in the outside dimensions between a .380/9x18 and a .32ACP barrel? Last edited by ulmapache; 02-10-2017 at 11:39 AM. Reason: add comment |

For this one I'd talk directly to the experts....CZ USA. I'm sure they can answer your questions. Just drop them an email. |

I've contacted the factory and a couple of CZ custom shops...all say they have no knowledge of the CZ83 other than it is a discontinued item, nor do they do any work on them...What parts are available will not be replenished when the stock is depleted.... Too bad...it's a great little pistol... I've got one in .380, and want another in .32ACP... Cannot find any, so decided to build my own.

If they can't help, you're either on your own, or you need to talk to a real professional pistolsmith who's still working. I can recommend talking to Frank Glenn in Arizona, or possibly a top shop like Cylinder & Slide, Clarke, or Cogan. |

The 32 barrel is of smaller diameter than the 9x18. So I turned a bushing to fit ahead of the recoil spring. That fits tight in the slide. I purchased a 32cap barrel and magazine from cz. It was short in the chamber and I had no reamer so I measured everything then slid the barrel ahead to get the head space on the case mouth. Then I had to cut the extractor cut and feed ramp and pin it. Dremel and files. To remove the barrel I had to drill the old pin out and make shift a barrel press. This I did with threaded rod and a couple of turned bushings. I filed a slight bevel on top of the barrel boss to ease assembly and disassembly, the bushing takes up room so that has to be done in order to get it apart or together. The extractor, I filed the pad behind the claw to make it engage the rim further. I started with a 82 in 9mak. I also turned a junker 9mm barrel down to 380 chamber dimentions and fit it, in case this experiment in 32acp failed. But I have a couple of hundred rounds out of the 32 barrel with no problems. ?
