Can anyone tell me who manufactures the Dan Wesson frames and slides and where they are manufactured?
Thank you in advance for any feedback.
Best to all,

I have read that Smith and Wesson makes them but there could be others.

Smith makes the external extractor slides & Patriot & RZ frames. Two or three others make the rest.

Essex was making the cast slides and receivers used in the Pointman Minor series guns.

I talked to a Smith & Wesson guy at NRA04.
He said they were not making Dan Wesson frames and slides.
I guess he could have been fibbing as he was trying to sell the

After lurking for over a year I finally had to register for this one.

From the DW forum over on 1911Forum the owner of DW, Bob Serva, said the following concerning Pointman frames on 03/06/04 :

No, The Pointman frames are not made by Essex. We have 3 frame and slide suppliers. Most of our components arrive here cored out and not finished. We do the precision machining here in the hardened state to fit frames to slides. Buy doing this after heat-treat it alleviates any possible poor fitting due to heat-treat wrapage....
That's a partial quote as the rest of it is not relevant to the discussion here IMO.

Also, on 11/16/02 Bob stated the following:

Gentleman, to clear up any rumors. S&W forges and cores outthe frames for us. We complete all critical machining on our cnc equipment at Dan Wesson.
Unfortunately he was not particularly specific as to model, but OTOH he does say forges so I think we can assume the forged models (Patriot, Razorback, customs) are based on S&W forgings.

As for the castings, he will not say exactly who other than it is not Essex. IIRC (and I ain't gonna bother looking it up ), he has said that the supplier does not want to be named, and I get a vague recollection that he said something about it being a contractual stipulation but don't quote me on that.

Browsing Gunbroker I found this auction:

http://www.gunbroker.com/auction/ViewIt ... m=17781190

The reason I bring it up here is that the description states that the frame is a Lone Star Arms forged frame. The EXP designation means experimental, or engineering sample for DW. Perhaps they're looking at another supplier for forgings over at there. I wish they'd stop using flash photography

The item description:

DAN WESSON FIREARMS MODEL: PT-EXP CALIBER: 45 ACP TRIGGER: Nowlin Match Grade 3 Hole TRIGGER PULL: 3.5 LBS SIGHTS: Novak style Fixed Combat BARREL: Forged 416 Match stainless steel GRIPS: AAA CocoBola Exotic Hardwood New Blue steel 45 ACP full size 1911, Lone Star Arms forged frame with gray Dura Coat, with Patriot slide and external extractor, Black Oxide steel forged slide. Blue steel small parts. Match grade hammer and sear, STI High ride beavertail safety, STI extended thumb safe, beveled mag well, & 1 8-round Novak magazine. This gun is loaded with high performance features and has a great 3.5 clean break trigger pull. Match ready out of the box. New in Box, with papers. 100 % factory warranty. This is a very tight pistol and will be a great match pistol.

My minimal experience has led me to believe (MY OPINION ONLY) that when they are so secretive or circumspect, that usually means PHILLIPINES MANUFACTURE!!!!!!!

Wrong! Parker Dean has it exactly correct. DW isn't being circumspect or secretive, they are just being a typical manufacturer. It's their business where they get their raw cores. Sorry, but starting internet rumors based on speculation is just plain stupid.
