Just got back from the SHOT show and Dan Wesson was showing a 1911 prototype that you cannot differentiate from a STI Edge! Yep, it is tight and sweet. They are using a STI frame and the fitting was as good as a custom.
They are not sure if they are going to build the pistol at this time. They feel that they need to sell it for a good bit less than the STI. I agree, if the price is any where near the STI....that is what I would buy, STI. A good pistol and a name brand. If the price is $ 500 less ($1200 or so) I would have to buy one of Dan Wesson's pistols.
The production pistol may not be as sweet as the prototype, but the spokesman/gunsmith for the company assured me that they don't want to build a pistol like everyone else. He said that they were looking to build a pistol just like I had in my hand.
The reaction to the pistol was very favorable and most dealers I talked with were looking for the price point. They want something that will move across their shelves and not sit and draw dust.
Lets see what they do. I think they are on to something.
