A friend of mine is an FBI SWAT team member, and I've been able to play with his issued SA Professional with Black-T. This gun is VERY well-used, and the finish is actually holding up well for a spray-on. It has wear at the high points and some dings and scratches from hard use, but overall coverage is still very good, and he says it doesn't rust even where the finish is worn or dinged. It doesn't look as pretty as bluing, especially where it wears, but it's much more protective of the gun than bluing.

Black-T is done by Walt Birdsong. I don't have his contact number, but I'm sure someone else here can provide it. You can probably find it in a search for Black-T here as well.

Thanks luckyhoser!!

Thanks for the info. I did a search and haven't been able to come up with a tx# or address for Birdsong or anyone else who does this finish. If anyone else has some info I would appreciate it!!

Black T is good stuff. I cycle two Pros as part of my carry gear. They wear well. Aesthetically, I nice business-like gun can be a pleasant change, too!

Be well!

I have sent many customers guns to Walter and 5 personal guns also wear Black-T. IMHO it is the best of the Teflon finishes, it is a softer finish then hard chrome but for a self lubricating and highly protective finish it can't be beat. Even where it wears down or appears to have worn off on the slide and frame ways and rails it is still there in the pores of the metal. It is impervious to the environmental elements and will function dry if needed but oil is still suggested.

Walter is a great guy to work with; he will even refinish the gun for free less shipping if you have worn off the finish on the exterior, although I have never seen this happen. He prefers that the gun be sent fully assembled so they know all the parts are present, and it is returned fully assembled too. I have had it applied to both steel and aluminum frames and it does more then they claim. You can't go wrong with Black-T

I had the good fortune to spend some time on the phone today with Mr Birdsong. Let me say that he is a real gentleman, and that he gave me confidence that sending him a gun to be treated in black teflon s will be a great experience. My Birdsong is a chemist by trade and he gave the the entire history of how he developed the product.

I will be sending him a couple pistols as soon as my sights are installed.

Jim, I now understand a bit more about the endless rave reviews that I have heard about Walter and his product. I can't wait to see the results.
