| FN Five Seven Pistol
A gun shop here in Houston has just started carrying the FN Five Seven pistol for sale to non-LEOs (I assume these are now available to civilians as a result of the AWB expiring but have not confirmed this). The pistol shoots the 5.7 x 28mm cartridge, resulting in a 31 grain bullet leaving the barrel with a velocity of ~2,200 fps. This is essentially a miniaturized .223 Remington cartridge and offers rifle-like ballistics from a very lightweight pistol platform and with virtually no recoil. It sounds intriguing (especially with the standard 20 round magazine), but I've been hesitant to purchase one, primarily because of the $950 price tag and the relatively high cost of the ammo (about $.50 per round). The pistol is about the size of a Glock 17, but much lighter. Does anyone have any experience with this pistol or otherwise know anything about its merits, drawbacks, etc.?

I own one. I enjoy shooting it and find it to be accurate for the job it was designed for. It has become a weapon I trust and It stays in the truck with me. I have overcome my distrust of the ammunition offered and, with Hornady now making "legal", I hate that word and the thought process behind this "Cop Killer" pistol, I digress, ammunition at what I consider reasonable prices, I would reccommend the weapon for a lot of uses. I just got one. I wanted it so bad then I got it and it's useless. It sounds good on paper but take that paper and compare it to a 22mag. Almost identical. I'm trading mine for a 10/22 breakdown and a ruger chager even up.
