I've fired both. Both are excellent guns. They are both well made and accurate. The rock islands are heavier guns the slides are on the thick side. Their parkerizing is nice. I shot the umarex back when they were regent. They're made in Turkey. The slides are more like colt slides. The only thing I noticed about it was that the grip was wider than spec. This made the grip panels look undersized. I liked it. It fit my hand better. Also, the regent came with a throated barrel. I can't speak for the new umarex guns.

Many thanks! Will I have trouble with aftermarket parts for either?

Not at all. Just keep in mind that drop in parts don't necessarily drop in on all 1911s. This is true for different guns from the same manufacturer. The rock islands are actually made in the Philippines on equipment that made 1911s for the army.

With all due respect, Sir, thats something that is heard from time to time, but in point of fact, is not accurate. Armscor started mass producing 1911's in 1996, and they purchased new CNC machines specifically for that task. That info comes straight from Martin, the CEO of Armscor.

I can't believe we resurrected a thread arguing about a $350 POS.

Umarex has THE WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE IN THE WORLD. I had a terrible experience with them a while back. I bought a "Colt" rail gun 22lr that self destructed and went full auto in less than 500 rounds. I sent it back and they accused me of altering the gun. They charged me 150$ and sent the gun back with the hammer still following the slide. The internal parts had worn badly being made from garbage. They offered no help. I would never buy their garbage again. The parts were so cheaply made they looked like they belonged in an air soft gun MIM junk. I replaced the hammer sear disconnect with parts from a Springfield that I upgraded and fixed it 99%. It will never be 100% because the disconnect tunnel is not machined correctly. It's as if they don't even know how a 1911 works. But I will never forget the horrible experience they provided.

Buyer beware UMAREX IS NO GOOD

BTW I have no problem with armscor. I have a 22TCM that is amazing for the price. Also for the price they are an amazing deal for a basic gun capable of upgrading
