I have used hoppies gun oil mfor years and find it to be consumed during use in rather short period of time. Question has anyone used a sae 5 weight oil and what results? I tried it and the flim strength stays put and lasts. I have not had any fouling or residue build up. Your opinions please.

The people who are using motor oil for gun lubrication all seem to be using synthetic Mobile One. Standard type motor oils may contain additives that can be bad for gun finishes and even metals. |

I run Mobil 1 15-50 in my 1911 and 2011, which are used in USPSA competition. The 2011 has 5K down the pipe, the 1911 has about 23K down the pipe, with no measurable wear on either.

My Mobil 1 supply comes from emptying a bunch of "empty" bottles of the few drops left in each one. I have 4-5 oz of the mixture of every weight Mobil 1. It is probably a 3-5 year supply for my handguns. If I could tell the difference between the different weights, my guns can't. |

Many thanks, i am off to the oil store for some mobil-1. Adjusting the trigger pull spring not a problem but the hammer sprin butt slide goes back in rather hard, i have to lean on it against the work bench to insert the keeper pin, is this normal? I get it together and every thing works as expected, no problems in operation. Billymac |
