Have you shot both pistols? The feel of the two is substantially different. The 1911 (I assume you're considering a comander or officer's) is easier to conceal & has a better trigger but hard to find with a rail. The HK is fatter overall but seems to recoil less and already has the light rail.

I prefer the HK over the 1911, but that could just be me. The HK will have more capacity than most 1911s. The downside of this is that the double column magazine makes the grip thicker than the grip on most single stack 1911s. The HK will offer your choice of trigger groups--everything from DAO to DA/SA with or without a decocker. I hear their LEM drigger is very good for a double action, perhaps only matched by the Para LDA. The polymer frame should also make it lighter than most 1911s. The fullsize USPs have pretty big grip circumfrances, but I don't think it should be a problem with the Compact. Handle them both and see which feels best to you. Both should be reliable, but the HK may require less tuning or fiddling.

As for your light, it won't fit on the USPs without an adaptor. Adaptors are made by GG&G and Sidearmor. The GG&G is priced around $50 or $60.

If you really want your light to fit, you should look into the new HK P2000 or P2000SC. They are basically DAO USP Compacts with an LEM trigger. They have adjustable palm swells and the industry standard light rails rather than the HK specific clip on rails. Only two downsides, if you wanna call it that--they only come in 9x19 and .40 S&W, and they have no external safety.
