HK . . . .got parts

i recently read at "the cult of the P7 forum" that someone sent their P7 or PSP to Virgil Tripp for hardchroming only to learn that his drop safety had issues . .so Virgil calls HK for the part. . . HK referred Virgil to "HK Parts" online and it turns out "HK Parts" is out of stock for that particular part. . . .now short of calling HK or bothering Virgil . .do you think HK referred Virgil to another supplier because they would NOT send him the parts or because HK did not have them? . .my concern is finding the famous 3 (drop safety, firing pin bushing and extractor spring/plunger) . .if and when i need them :-? . . .i love my P7 and want to keep it for a long time, but if parts are becoming an issue i may switch to a BHP as parts and accessories are plentiful and finding an extra mag for my P7 is a bit like searching for the freakin Holy Grail lately

Good luck getting parts for your HK. The guy at OPS seems to care about his customers, but HK seems to not care about him. He can't keep parts in stock, and he can't get everything that you might need either. HK certified armorers are able to get parts, but it costs more that way.

Good luck with that too. As much as I love HK's products, they don't seem to have much appreciation for the civilian sector of their business and their customer service sucks too. I've wrote to them twice asking for a list of HK Certified Armorers in Montana but they never replied. I think I found some near Kalispell, but I only spend about three months out of the year near there and it would be much more convenient if I could find one near Bozeman where I go to school.

Well I've been back and forth with them for about two months trying to get two springs and a cocking piece. They have recommended retailers whom they supply (like OPS), only for me to find out that everything I need is out of stock and usually is. No, they don't know when they will get anymore. Yes, they'll call me when they do...Not! Then HK has referred me to armorers (2 of them) whose policy does not allow them to sell parts to me, and to an HK dealer who does not and has never carried repair parts for HK. All the while, they are telling me that they have the parts I need in stock, but cannot sell them to me.
One guy went so far as to suggest the option of sending my pistol to them for repair. That was very nice- me paying $60 in shipping and FFL fees plus what their smitty charges for his 5 minutes and the parts for two springs and a sliver of metal. How friggin nice.
I aparrently haven't bugged enough people at HK yet, as my LEM is still in the gun safe, inoperable.

Update- after leaving half a dozen messages I finally got the right guy on the phone again. With no hesitation, he agreed to send me the parts I needed for free since none of the aftermarket suppliers had them. Why he didn't do that two months ago is anybody's guess, but when the envelope arrives I'll appreciate him.

One more update: One of their regional sales managers sent the parts to the wrong address, TWICE! After four months and over 20 phone calls (only two of which they actually returned), I finally got a package with an assortment of HK small parts- I guess they didn't want me to call back again. They still didn't send the right trigger rebound spring, but I'll live with the standard one that I did recieve. I've got the gun running again and after my polish job on the internals the LEM trigger is smooth as can be.
HK's are a bear to put together...

H&K

I adore the engineering, reliability and accuracy of H&K products, but... I've worked with ARGS, Inc in Eastpointe, MI and let me tell you that it is very difficult to get components from them. I really cannot fathom why that is so, in general.

For the P7M8 I cannot imagine the pistol remaining in their inventory for long. Why?

Quote:
Too labor intensive to manufacture.
Unfavorable Fed Reserve Note (dollar to most): Euro ratio.
Loss of contracts for the pistol due to high replacement cost.
The P2000 has essentially replaced the little squeeze cocker. It's objective a superior product from a corporate and marketing perspective. How so?

Quote:
Much cheaper to manufacture.
Superior finish.
Similar accuracy.
Perhaps more reliable.
Ease of maintenance.
Lighter mass.
I also don't expect replacement parts to ever be widely available. I honestly suggest that those who can afford it purchase another example. When parts are available online one must use "the plastic" with no reservations.

All that said I like the P7M8 and I'm currently searching for one with the "Hostile Environment" finish which is supposed to be "AE" date code example.

Later.
