Can I Remove Black Finish on K40?

I have a K40 with the matte black finish on the slide (blackened stainless). I thought the black finish was pretty cool when I bought the gun, but... I bought a holster and while I was working it in the snap scratched the black finish. It also rubbed on the rivet on my Levis for one trip out of the house (nice scratches over the K40 symbol). I am not hard on guns but I feel that I have to baby this gun to keep it looking good.

Can the blackening be removed so that I can have a nice stainless slide? If so, how is it done? Will there need to be another type of finish applied? The slide is not the same type of finish (so it seems) and is much more durable so I think a stainless slide on the black frame would be pretty cool. Plus, I love this gun!!!!

Thank you in advance for any info!

Sounds like you have the “Economy” model Kahr.

Don't think it is economy.

It is a K4043A and is listed as the real deal on Kahr's site. It is not an "E" model. I am pretty picky about how my gun looks and if I can get a better look by getting it refinished, I will. I am looking for any information about refinishing practices. As it is, 6 months of carry and it looks like other guns I've carried for several years (and used alot more). Maybe the blackened stainless is economy for Kahr, but I haven't been too impressed.

Any information on 'smiths who do this kind of work would be greatly appreciated.

I was wondering why they leave the barrel's looking so dull and cheap. I'd like to get mine polished!

I say do it then gldP01… if you start to have surface rust problems that get out of hand you can always have it refinished by someone… (rust should NOT be a problem however with your gun) sounds like you want to do something either way, right? You can’t go wrong giving it a try!

It would probably pretty sweat looking to do something like this on your Kahr: (the places left black shouldn't see too much, if any wear)

Polished sides, black inlays & black top… you could have a one-of-a-kind Kahr!

Actually the black slide pistols are more expensive than the bare models.

I happen to like the matte finish on the barrel so it is less noticable if I accidentally expose my pistol.

I guess that's why they make both of em.

Mac's Finishes

I have been looking at Mac's www.shootiniron.com and like the nickel finish. Someone had pictures of a Steyr that was finished in nickel and it looks durable and would make a pretty cool two-tone look to my pistol. Plus, it's in the $40 range. Great price and a no rust guarantee. Has anyone used this finish on anything?

I have the more expensive black diamond finish on the slide but I think it would look great with a polished barrrel. I don't think the small part of the exposed barrel will make your gun that much more noticable. A chrome slide is a differenmt story.
