CW9 problems....lots of 'em

Bought a CW9 3 years ago-couple of jams first time out-then ran flawlessly for 300 more rounds of all types. Got the bug for a new gun-bought one-it was too heavy and got tired of the increased weight so Ipurchased 2 new CW9's (one for the wife) and went to the range. Hers had a few jams and a few light primer strikes during the first 200 break-in rounds (no big deal, the following week I ran nearly a hundred rounds of Remington 115 FMJ "Sure Shot" and had 3 light primer strikes that fired upon rechambering, but no jams,so I will try some other premium ball ammo)-I think her gun is going to run OK once I find some ammo it likes. My gun is,ahem,a POS. First time out I could not get through a single magazine without some type of jam, stovepipe, failure to extract.I had to use a knife to dig out the used brass....multiple light strikes--you name it. Then, after squeezing off a round ...a sharp pain just above my left eye as the mangled extractor bounced off the side wall at the shooting range and whacked me just above my left eye. No stitches were required but I have a nice 2 inch vertical scar as a constant reminder of Kahr "quality"... Called Kahr-sent it in-cost me $50 for overnite delivery that they insisted was the only way it could be sent. Got it back a week later with a note stating that the extractor had been replaced and that they had fired 200 rounds thru it and that it was broken in and 100% reliable. Another 10 bucks in gas,$15 for an hour at the range, you get the idea. I went to the range and the piece of crap would fire only the first round and that was it. So I sent it back ($50 overnite)-got it back a week later. Fed and extracted fine-4 light primer strikes in approx. 50 rounds-then BOOM!-extractor a spring and a couple of small metal bits went flying out of it. I asked Kahr in a NICE WAY for a new gun but they refused....so....this piece of [email protected] is on its way back again. BUYER BEWARE- Do yourself a favor A V O I D

Re: CW9 problems....lots of 'em

I've had light primer stikes with my CW9 as well, so I've requested an RMA number to send it in for repair. Hopefully I'll have better luck than you have. I want this pistol to be reliable as I intend to carry it for personal protection. It's a great size and weight but reliability is the most important thing. If it ever needs to go boom, it needs to go boom.

Re: CW9 problems....lots of 'em

Got my CW9 back from Kahr, very good turnaround. It was back within 2 weeks of sending it in for the "light primer strikes". The only down side is they require overnite shipping so the trip cost $45. The note they included said they tested it and replaced the recoil spring. The original spring only had 500 or so rounds on it so I hope this is the problem. Hopefully I'll get a chance to ring it out soon. I'll update the post after I shoot it.

Re: CW9 problems....lots of 'em

For now. I Shot the CW9 last night after getting it back from Kahr with a "new recoil spring". I ran 100 or so rounds, round nose and hollow points, thru it with no malfunctions so it looks like the spring fixed it. I also ordered 2 more recoil springs from Kahr to have on hand in case the light primer stikes occur again. I plan to clean it up and load it with Hornady TAP 124 grain and use it for CCW carry. I really like the size and weight so I hope it will continue to function properly.
