I ran across a used Kahr K9 at a local shop. Looks like it's been carried a lot, shot a little. Blueing shows holster wear, the internals look perfect. A couple of questions for you Kahr savvy folks: How can I tell if it's an early gun, and if so, is there a range of serial numbers I should stay away from? What would you consider a decent price? I think he has it priced around $350.
The earlier ones have a separate piece pinned in at the back of the frame, where the web of the hand goes. You'd be able to see the vertical lines and a horiziontal one joining them, in kind of a "U" shape, when viewing the pistol from the rear. I can't say though when this changed to solid. I will say that the change is more of a manufacturing thing than a product improvement, so either way, no dif. If it's an earlier one it'll not have a little buffer behind the striker. Might be good to write Kahr and get a few, although I've gone 4-6,000 rounds on my old one with no prob.
Early K9's also didn't have the raised reinforcement area around the slide stop pin.
