The magazines for my P9 upon release drop out of the mag well about 1/2" to 3/4" and stop. The Kahr factory says that the pistol was designed to do this. I guess before I bought it I just assumed that the magazines would just drop free when the mag release was pushed. Maybe I'm trying to do a speed reload with a pistol that was designed to retain it's magazine incase the mag release buttom was accidently pushed. Has anyone with a P9 modified their mag release so that the magazine drops free ?

FWIW, mine doesn't do that. Mags drop free with no hang-up. I hold my release button in until the mag is completely out, but I don't really know if that makes a difference or not. I'll "pop" it and see. Kahr has made a couple of changes on the P9 since it was initially released, which I'm sure is normal for a completely new pistol. Maybe the mag thing is one of those, or maybe mine isn't right!! If the gun works fine otherwise, and there's no visible wear (as if from a damaged or deformed part), I'd take their word for it and rock on. It's an excellent pistol.

I just purchased a Kahr P9. One of the two factory mags drops free, while the other drops about 1 inch and binds. Whether or not the mags were designed to drop free, obviously one of the two is out of spec.

My k9 only comes out about 3/4 of an inch, unless it is loaded. then it drops out completly.
the only complaint I got about mine is the low grade finish . It pitted and rusted one hot summer day when iI was carrying it stuch in th e waistband of my shorts .I think it was from yhe sweat.( mayby I shouldn't eat so many peppers )

You can grind out the inside radius of the mag release. That gives you he clearance need for the mag to drop free. This is what I found on some . Check it out. The release hangs in the mag well on drags on the mag. They are ground from the factory, but some apparently not enough. I think it's poor workmanship versus "designed that way" .
