Slide lock problem

I have had this happen with CCI Blazer (180gr and 155gr), Speer Gold Dot and S&B.

It occured to me to file down the lever, but I don't want to do that.

I'll call Kahr. It would cost me $15 to ship it to them again and I will ask them to reimburse it. I just got this back a few weeks ago, so this is very irritating.

I called Kahr...

I called Kajr about my P40 and the slide lock problem. He confirmed that the problem we suspect is happening really is happening. He checked his notes and saw that they did replace the slide catch lever on my pistol.

So he offered to send a "polished" one to me over night. I'll receive it Wednesday, which is good. I can go test it over the holiday.

I am not exactly sure what it means to "polish" it. I think what it needs is to be ground down. He did say he would test it in a P40 they have there.

He also said they test using Federal American Eagle ammo. I told him I was firing CCI Blazer, which is very popular. Also, I told him I had this problem with Speer Gold Dot.

So I'll post another report after I receive the new lever and go to the range.

Kahr is also sending me a polished slide release to fix the problem with my P9. (slide goes forward on its own when inserting a full mag) I hope this fixes the problem. I've been told the P9 had some teething problems.

Tried calling Kahr customer service all day today. All I got was a recording asking me to leave a message. Finally just ended up e-mailing them with my concerns and asked them to get back to me. Also left a voicemail message informing them I e-mailed them with a breakdown of the problems I am having. Hope they get back to me.

Teething Problems my a$$. It's called poor manufacturing of a product. The guns should have been developed and proven before they were put on the market. They have been out for over 1 1/2 years at least that I know of. Poor quality control.

Design flaw

I actually suspect this is a design flaw. The slide catch lever should not be pushed up by a round in the magazine, but the current design of the slide catch makes this happen. I don't think this is a manufacturing error, but a problem with the weapon's design

FWIW, I've been trying to get a pin from them for two weeks now, so far no pin. I bought a new E9, and the pin below the slide stop fell out after firing a few rounds. I didn't notice it until I was home. I E-mailed Kahr, and received a very kind response, "it's in the mail" I suppose .

Clay

No slide stop lever today

Although they promised to send it overnight on Tuesday, my slide stop lever didn't arrive today. This means I won't have it until Tuesday at the earliest, I assume. Blah...

The new slide catch arrived today...

The new slide catch lever arrived today in the mail. It arrived covered in oil, so that means they tested it. I compared it to the existing one and it seemed to be shorter and rounder at the tip.

I installed it in my P40 and slowley fed a magazine of HydraShok into the handle. The end of the slide catch still touched the top round as it came up, but to a lesser extent than it had before.

I took it to the range and put 195 rounds of .40 CCI Blazer 155gr TMJ through it. The first three boxes were flawless. Twice during the last box, the slide locked open. However, I do think that this was because on these two shots my hand was on the catch.

I stopped at this point because my hand was in pain. It felt numb and I think I had a light sprain. This is the first time I had ever fired the P40 without the Houge wrap-around grip (it came off when I used some MPro-7 to clean the pistol). I thought I would prefer the grip off (it came with the pistol) but I now know it made a huge difference. Still, I probably won't replace it, as the cleaning solvent will just destroy the new one.

I cleaned it carefully tonight and will hit the range again in several more days. We'll see how about 150 more rounds do and I'll post the result here.

So far, I am pretty happy. I do think the two slide locks were my fault, but until I have a few more trips to the range my confidence in this pistol is still not there.

Jim

Well, I received a very nice response from Kahr today, apparantely they mailed out my part but it must've gotten lost in the mail, which I can certainly understand considering the holidays and all.

So far I am VERY pleased with Kahr customer service.

Regards,
Clay
