Hello group,

I was shooting earlier this afternoon and had my slide lock open before the magazine had emptied... there was still 3 rounds left in the mag, but the slide acted as if I had emptied the mag. The gun is the full size custom CDP, with the following changes made by the original owner:

New Extractor (Wilson Bullet Proof)
New Extended Ejector (Wilson)
New Extended Slide Stop/Release (Wilson)
New Firing Pin (Wilson)
New Firing Pin Stop (Wilson)
New Main Spring Housing (Wilson)
New Wilson Combat Mags

Any ideas what could've caused the slide to lock open before the mag emptied? Could the problem be with the mag? (pardon my ignorance if this is obvious... I shoot much but am still in the learning process with all the mechanics)

Thanks in advance for any help!

Happy Holidays,
Scott Taylor

mag or slide stop.

how many times did it happen?
same mag?
did it extract and empty case but stay locked?

It only happened once, but I only had time to go through 50 rounds.

Yes, the empty case did extract.

Extended slide stops/releases are completely unnecessary and can inadvertantly cause the problem you describe.

Hey Rob,

thanks for the information. I have the original parts that were removed so if this continues I could swap them back out. The original owner said he recieved a bit of criticism for using the extended slide release but told me it was just something he wanted on his gun. It hasn't bothered me either way, but if it is somehow causing some problems I will put the original part back.

So... again, begging pardon of my ignorance, how can the extended slide stop/release cause the slide to lock before the mag empties?

Thanks,
Scott

Hey Scott
The extra weight of the extended slide release can have enough momentum from the recoil to jump up and catch the slide stop causing the slide to lock open even though there are still rounds left in the mag.
I had a teacher that once told me the only stupid question is the one that isn't asked! I have never forgotten that.
Have a safe and happy New Year. Tim

Thanks all for the information and explanation.

I'll look into getting the original part put back on the gun.

Extended slide release!

There is a good chance that you are inadvertently pushing it upward yourself while shooting. It doesn't take much to move it enough to lock the slide back.
