I need a new 1911 for less than $500

Hi Guys,I haven`t been here for a quite a while(been too busy predator hunting) but I am in the need for a new 1911.I don`t want to spend more than $500 and that means not $525 or $550 and I want the gun to be new.So what is the best new 1911 I can get for $500 OR LESS.Thanks in advance and it`s nice to be back.

For that price range the Springfield MilSpec has to be the best buy! Galyans here had them at $419 a few months back but they are up to $469 now.

I'm gonna take a stab at this one...with all due respect, may I ask why do want to limit yourself to these parameters? I'm thinking that a quality used 1911 can be had for less that $500. Otherwise, I'm racking my brain trying to think what kind of 1911 would fit your request. The best deal I've made on a new 1911 was my Colt NRM Gov't Model for $560.00.

You might look around for one of the old roll marked Colts... best of luck in your search.

I am limiting myself to only a new 1911 because I have been burned too many times with used 1911`s.I am only spending $500 on one because I also have to purchase an AR.Thanks for the replies. Armond

Best of luck...I really think you are hurting yourself by imposing that limitation. Just suppose, you found a really trick Yost gun for 725, guess you'd let that pass...

Best of luck.

I haven't seen a new 1911 for $500 that I would carry as is.

If you are willing to go the extra $50-75, the NRM Colts are the way to go.

38 Super

Just remember, when buying a used 1911, knowledge breeds confidence.

limited selection

$500.00 or below is a tough mark just $50-75 bucks low for a good selection. But there are a couple of candidates.

1. Milspec Springfield around $470
2. Charles Daly these list around $460 for the Field EFS check on Davidsons they are $354
3. LLama MAX-I under $300
4. Firestorm FS45GDT
5. Rock Island 45 $399.00

That said I will say buyer beware on most of these, I have held a Charles Daly it was fair quality with a lot of features. Milspec Springfield are OK but bare bones, good base gun. I have never seen a Firestorm I liked. LLama I would worry about parts being not to 1911 spec's (different). And I just don't know about the Rock Island 45, but if someone else has some information I would like to hear on this one.

For my money I would do one of two things: Go hunt down a bone stock Norinco if you look you can find a new in box for just under $500, they are bare bones good steel and excellent base guns to work with then start dumping money on custom upgrades ( these were a lot better buy when they were under $300 new ). Or spring for the additional $60.00 and buy a Colt O1991. Best bang for the buck is the COLT !!!!! No suprises, custom stuff is easy and not really required, best quality steel in the frames and slides, good barrels. Really just a trigger job and you have a real shooter.

Hate to say this, but, if you have only $500 in the budget I would recommend a Glock. Love 1911's and have quite a few but I really think you are asking for reliability issues limiting yourself to your budget amount.

Try a Griffon Combat 1911 from CDNN Investments. They run about $350 plus ten for shipping. It's a Commander-length 1911 from South Africa. The thing is chock-full of features and has only two minor flaws: the grip safety jingles a little (easily fixed through spring tuning), and the two magazines that come with the gun are a little sticky on insertion and extraction. Other than that, it's a solid, well-built pistol.

Apparantly, the South Africans learned something other than ethnic politicking from the Germans.

P.S. Please note CDNN's website does not allow you to view firearms. Request a free catalog to view their entire stock, which includes two other compact, sub-$500, hi-cap 1911s by Springfield Armory and Para-Ordnance.
