Mainspring Housing Hello Who makes a good replacement main spring housing with a lanyard loop for my Colt 1911 made in 1918. I saw one by John Masen for about $22.00 is his parts anygood? Thank you |
Lanyard Loop The John Masen mainspring housing I got was pretty rough in the tunnel. Smith and Alexander make one, their products are usually good, Brownells: http://www.brownells.com/aspx/NS/Store/ ... px?p=12739 |
MSH Second Smith & Alexander. AN occasional problem with recent Springfield pistols, but never in a Colt...new or old. They also offer a smooth, flat housing with a lanyard loop, which is what your 1918 "Black Army" Colt is supposed to have...in case you're going for something close to original. They're a little sharp on the bottom corner have to be reshaped a little to match the grip frame contours...but that's a snap. Touch-up with cold blue or just leave it alone and let nature take its course. |
Re: Mainspring Housing You can't go wrong with an Ed Brown and you get your choice of different finishes and checkering. |
Re: Mainspring Housing I was not clear on the type that you wanted. Do you want an "internal" loop or external? If external avoid the John Masen. Run from it. The Smith and Alexander MSH is good quality. If you get the Ed Brown they are very nice but you are just paying extra for the name. Jess |
