I am a new pistol shooter and am trying to learn some of the mechanics of the 1911. Yesterday I took my pistol apart to clean it and the pin holding the link just fell out, letting the link fall from the barrel. I have about 2200 rounds of Am Eagle 230 through the gun.
In the past this link-pin assemply has been seemingly very solid and has not separated during dissambly/cleaning.
My questions are: Is it still safe to shoot? Is this normal? Do I need to replace the link and pin as a maintence item? if so how does one take the pin out normally, with a punch?
Thanks for any help and for answering probably a very basic "Dumb butt" question.
