Are there Colt's & S&W 1911's under $1000.00?

I'm going to buy a Colt & S&W 1911,to add to my 1911 collection.I would like to buy them new under a thousand dollar. I won't be buying them at the same time so if I do have to spend $ 1000.00,it not going to be much more then that dollar amount. Opinions please!

I'd buy a Colt first.
Colt quality is the highest it's been since the 60's and the Colt name makes a possible resale higher.

They and John Browning invented the 1911, why not get the original.
Plus, Colt uses the least amount of MIM steel in their guns of all the manufacturers.
As I recall, only the mag catch, sear, and disconnecter are MIM. The slide, frame, and barrel are very high quality forgings, and all other parts are cast steel.
Everybody else uses a lot of MIM parts.

Look for a Colt Competition.

They are selling in my area for around $900.

No.
Both Colt and J.M.B. did the development of the 1911.
JMB did the preliminary design.

The US Cavalry Board was in charge of the program and made requests to Colt for changes.
Colt and JMB worked out the final designs.

The gun adopted as the Model 1911 was not the same design that JMB sold to Colt.
Colt had major input on the final design.
