| pinched frame fix?
Hi guys. New guy here looking for advice. I recently bought a 9mm, colt commander from Sarco. I believe it was advertised as an Isreali police trade-in. Somewhere in its rough life it looks like it was put in a vise, right on the grip screw escutcheon. The frame is pinched just enough to make mag insertion and removal a drag. The mag will go in with a push. But will not drop free. I am a tinkerer. Not a gunsmith. Any help or recommendations who to send it to for help?? Love the pistol. I replaced a bunch of worn parts. Sights, springs, barrel bushing etc.. It's turning into a shooter, but needs the mag issue addressed. Thanks for any help. dcl.

Colt will probably be able to take care of it with no problem. I'm sure that this would not be the first like this they've seen since 1912. If they won't, talk to Master pistolsmith Frank Glenn in Arizona. My first stop would be Colt. I would NOT take it to some local. God only knows what a local might do to it. |

there are various ways to easily fix this yourself, the cheapest is get two pieces of hard white oak, about 10 inches long, drill a hole at one end and put them together like a T, with a very sturdy bolt, having cut the long section to 3/4 of the magazine slot width, put the gun in a vise, using leather to protect and firm its clamp, then insert the oak T, into the mag slot in place where its touching, rotate the T, and "nudge it just a bit" tighter..doing this repetedly and check the mag fit until it works right. from what your saying, just a little bit is going to fix it cheap simple easy , or send it to colt.. |
